Prior to coming to CMU in 1985 as an instructor, she taught high school Spanish. She has traveled and/or studied in Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica and Colombia.
Honors and Recognitions
Susan has won several awards: In teaching-- one of CMU Teachers of the Year in 1996, Michigan World Language Association's University Level Teacher of the Year in 1996, and the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese University Level Teacher of the Year in 2010. She has also been awarded the Barbara Ort Smith Award in 2003 for overall service to foreign languages in the state of Michigan by the Michigan World Language Association.
