Lifetime Manistique resident Ronald G. Patrick, Age 75 of 315 Center Street, Manistique, Michigan died March 31, 2009 at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.

He was born April 13, 1933 in Manistique the son of George and Rose (Dugas) Patrick. He attended St. Francis de Sales School and graduated from the Manistique High School in the Class of 1951. He continued his education at Central Michigan University and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1955.

He was in the first R.O.T.C. class at Central Michigan University and after graduation was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Following his active duty in the U.S. Army, which included service in Germany, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve and the Michigan National Guard and retired as a Captain after 38 years of combined service.

On August 19, 2000 he married the former Joan R. Voice in Kingsley, Michigan. They made their home in Manistique and spent winters at the Fun N Sun Resort in Benito, Texas where Ron had spent winters for the last 21 years.

After teaching at the Cooks School and the Hiawatha School, where he was also the principal, Ron taught junior high math and high school history at the Manistique High School, where he also operated the audio-visual center and served as the M.E.A. negotiator. He had a positive influence on the community through the impact he had on his students throughout his more than 30 year teaching career.

Ron was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church of Manistique. He enjoyed traveling, in the U.S. and Europe, and loved history, especially military history and specifically World War II. He enjoyed spending time with his family and visiting with his friends, schoolmates and Army buddies.

He is survived by his wife, Joan of Manistique; sons, Allen Ronald (Laurie Ann) Patrick of Traverse City, MI and Robert Albert (Christine) Patrick of Goodyear, AZ; daughters: Laurie (Jim) Terpenning of Port Sanilac, MI, Lynn (Kurt) Jepson of Scarborough, ME and Heidi Susan (Brian) Winterble of Appleton, WI; stepsons, David Terpening of Traverse City, MI and Mark (Sara) Terpening of Mount Airy, MD; grandchildren: Anders and Camden Jepson, Maxwell Winterble and Trevor, Alex and Haley Terpening; sister, Audrey (Don) Martin of Manistique and a niece and two nephews.

Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique with a veterans’ memorial service at 6:00 P.M. and parish liturgical prayers to follow at 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Manistique with Father Glenn Theoret officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery at Manistique.
