​There are two ways to register to vote: by mail or in person

Register by mail

To register by mail, follow these steps:

1. Download the Michigan Voter Registration Form.

2. After you fill out the Michigan Voter Registration Form, print the form and mail it to your county clerk. Follow this link to find your local county clerk.

NOTE: If you DO NOT register in person at the Secretary of State/County Clerk, you register by mail, even if you register “online” or "in person" with someone at CMU.

Register in Person

You have two options to register in person.

Secretary of State

Visit ANY Secretary of State at any of their locations in Michigan before the voting registration deadline. Bring your driver's license with you. Follow this link to view the hours and locations of the nearest Secretary of State location.

NOTE: The Mount Pleasant Secretary of State office is located at 1245 North Mission, just north of Meijer. The hours of operation are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Phone: 989-767-6424

Additional Information about voting in Mount Pleasant

If you register by mail AND you are a first-time voter, you can NOT vote via mail using an absentee ballot. This may pose a problem for college students because Election Day is always on a Tuesday AND you must vote in the town/city named on your driver's license address.

If you cannot be at home on Election Day and you want to vote in Mount Pleasant, you have three options.

1) List your Mount Pleasant address as "Address where you live" on the voter registration form. 
You can do this at any of the 144 Secretary of State Offices or at your City/County/Township Clerk Office (registering “in person,” gives you the right to vote via a mail-in absentee ballot) or you can do it in a voter registration drive in Mount Pleasant.

2) Registered voters can change your address to your Mount Pleasant address.
If you have already registered to vote in Michigan but *outside* of Mount Pleasant, you need to change your address by the voter registration deadline. You can do this at any Secretary of State office or at www.expressSOS.com.

3) Request an absentee ballot in person from your home city/township/clerk.
Drive home and visit your city/township/county clerk by 2pm on the voter registration deadline, request an application to vote via absentee ballot and, if you can do so, fill it out and vote in person right there.
