Kate studies Native American women and their experience, participation and resistance in American funded boarding schools through the lens of women. She is currently beginning her dissertation titled Through the Pale Arches: Native American Women and the Boarding School Experience and will examine the experiences of Native American females attending American boarding schools during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
Kate holds a BS in humanities from Central Michigan University and a joint MA in history from Central Michigan University and the University of Strathclyde located in Glasgow, Scotland. She has earned numerous fellowships and awards including the Mae Teeter's Award in history in 2012 and the runner up for best gender studies paper in 2016. She has presented her material at multiple conferences including "Gender, Power and Materiality in Early Modern Europe 1500-1800" located in Plymouth, England, and the Social History Conference located in Lancaster, England during her time abroad in 2016 and also presented twice at Central Michigan University's conferences.
