Community educator faculty members enhance the CMU College of Medicine's education, research and clinical programs by bringing  special talents or contributions to our mission. These appointments recognize academ​ic affiliations and collaborations with the College of Medicine, but they do not carry the responsibilities or benefits of pre-tenure, tenured or fixed-term appointments. Community educator faculty members are not employed by Central Michigan University or CMU Medical Education Partners and are not compensated.  

Community Educators​​

Clinical: Volunteer faculty whose principal activity is focused on the care of patients.  These faculty have a signed affiliation agreement with CMU College of Medicine providing for the education of College of Medicine students or training of CMU College of Medicine residents at their clinical site or provide topical didactic instruction.  Faculty members in this track are not employed by the College of Medicine and therefore not eligible for other types of appointment.

Educational: Volunteer faculty whose principal activity is focused on education, educational methods, and research of educational methods and effectiveness. These faculty are from other colleges or Universities. Faculty members in this track are not employed by the College of Medicine and therefore not eligible for other types of appointment.

Community Educator appointments are granted in three-year increments.

The application processing period can take 30 to 45 days from receipt of the completed application.  It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure all required information is provided for review to the Faculty and Staff Affairs Office.
