Monthly Feature:  Psoriasis Awareness Month

Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition caused by an overactive immune system.  Symptoms include flaking, inflammation, and thick, white, silvery, or red patches of skin.  Psoriasis treatments include steroid creams, occlusion, light therapy and oral medications, such as biologics.  For mild to moderate disease, first-line treatment involves topical therapies including corticosteroids, vitamin D3 analogues and combination products. These topical treatments are efficacious and can be safely initiated and prescribed by primary care physicians.
