Monthly Feature:  Self-Harm Awareness

 Self-Harm Awareness

Self-harm refers to a person's harming their own body on purpose. 1 in 100 people hurt themselves this way, more females than males. A person who self-harms usually doesn’t mean to kill themselves. They are at higher risk of attempting suicide if they don’t get help.  Self-harm tends to begin in teen or early adult years. People may engage in self-harm a few times and then stop, others engage more often and have trouble stopping (MedlinePlus, 2017).
