Interim Chair of Medical Disciplines
Dr. Bradley has more than 30 years of experience as a board-certified psychiatrist-medical scientist and specializes in addiction psychiatry, a topic he frequently addresses in published research. He came to CMU as the chief of psychiatry after working at Michigan State University's anatomy and psychiatry departments, HealthPlus of Michigan, State of Michigan Office of Medicaid, chief of psychiatry at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and then Genesee County Community Mental Health. At CMU, Dr. Bradley led the move to a residency program in psychiatry, which welcomed its first residents in July 2014. Dr. Bradley is a 1984 graduate of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and performed his residency at the University of Michigan.
William Robert Fleischmann
Interim Chair of Foundational Sciences
Dr. Fleischmann is co-director of the Foundational Sciences of Medicine course and coordinator of Year 1 and 2 courses. He received a Ph.D. in viral genetics from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. He was a post-doctoral fellow at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., and at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He joined the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at UTMB in 1977. While at UTMB, he served as course director for a number of courses, helped develop the Integrated Curriculum Evaluation Exercise program and helped design a new medical school curriculum at UTMB that featured problem-based learning cases. In 2004, he moved to the University of Minnesota Medical School, where he taught medical microbiology and immunology and developed a PBL course called Foundations in Critical Thinking. Fleischmann is the author of more than 125 peer-reviewed original articles. His current research focuses on efforts to develop cancer vaccines.
Samuel Shaheen, M.D., FACS
Interim Chair of Surgical Disciplines
Dr. Shaheen is the Vice Chair of Surgical Disciplines and Professor of Surgery at the CMU College of Medicine Department of Surgery. He earned an MD degree in 1992 from the University of Michigan School of Medicine in Ann Arbor, and performed his surgical residency at Northwestern University in Illinois. He was board certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1998/2007, and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
