Gov. Snyder appoints Dr. Sandra L. Howell to 19-member board
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich., Feb. 24, 2014 – Dr. Sandra L. Howell, an assistant professor with the Central Michigan University College of Medicine and a CMU Health surgeon with a breast and skin surgical services practice, was named to the Michigan Board of Medicine by Gov. Rick Snyder.
Howell will serve a four-year term with the 19-member board, which oversees the licensing and registration of 36,000 physicians. The board also is responsible for determining the discipline of doctors who violate the Michigan Public Health Code.
"I appreciate the willingness of this talented group to serve on this important board," Snyder said in a release.
Howell's office is in Suite B at 2981 Health Parkway in Mount Pleasant, and she has specialized in the treatment of benign and malignant breast diseases as a board-certified surgeon in the mid-Michigan area for more than 15 years. Howell earned her undergraduate degree in chemistry from CMU before earning her medical degree at the University of Missouri.
As a member of the College of Medicine faculty, she co-directs the gastrointestinal and the hematology-oncology course blocks and is part of the team that designed the foundations course block.
