Dr. Hickman addresses Academy of Health Annual Research Meeting
Leaden Hickman, Associate Professor in the College of Medicine, at CMU
presented his paper entitled “Assessment of Long-Term INR Profile
Variability and Hemorrhagic Events in Patients Chronically
Anti-coagulated with Warfarin at the Annual Research Meeting of Academy
Health June 24-26, 2012 in Orlando, Florida.
The opening plenary section of the meeting, attended by more than
1500 global scientists, focused the theme of the conference, which was
the Impact of Comparative Effectiveness Research and Patient Centered
Outcomes Research (PCOR) in the Field of Health Services Research (HSR).
This research, essential to the delivery of evidence-based health care
is directly related to the vision and mission of the College of
Dr. Hickman’s work involves comparative effectiveness research in
heart patients with atrial fibrillation and stroke. As a cardiovascular
epidemiologist, his work has focused on developing effective clinical
interventions for patients with cardiovascular disease. In addition to
his research and teaching activities, Professor Hickman is Course Chair
for the Year 1 and Year 2 College of Medicine course entitled Society
and Community Medicine.
