Dr. Francis Achike earned his MD degree from the University of Ife, Nigeria in 1979 with postgraduate training in Anesthesiology (1983) and PhD Pharmacology (1991), respectively, from University of Benin (Nigeria) and The University of Hong Kong. He was lecturer in Anesthesiology and Pharmacology at the University of Nigeria (1991- 1994), Senior Research Associate, University of Hong Kong (1994- 1996), Lecturer in Pharmacology, University of Malaya (1996-2000) and Associate Professor, Head of Clinical Skills Section: (2001- 2003) and Professor at the International Medical University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2000 - 2011). He was Professor of Pharmacology and Clinical Skills at the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Hattiesburg Mississippi from 2011-2013. He has deep interest in innovative medical education, particularly curriculum development. He has a Master degree in Education Management from the University Malaya and is a member of the Education Committee (and fellow) of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology. He is committee member of the Education Section of the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacologists (IUPHAR) and he sits on the International Advisory Board of the Asia-Pacific Association of PBL in the Health Sciences (APA-PHS). His research interest covers medical education and cardiovascular pharmacology with bias for diabetes and the metabolic syndrome. His work is published in international journals and he currently sits on the editorial boards of the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology (JCVP), the Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology (CEPP), the Journal of Medical Education (Taiwan), and the Journal of Life Sciences.
