Mariana Rosca is a Medical Doctor who joined CMU College of Medicine in 2014 as an Assistant Professor of Physiology in the Foundational Sciences Discipline. She received her M.D. degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Iasi-Romania, became a specialist in Internal Medicine, and has served for 10 years as an Assistant Professor of Pathophysiology in the same university.
She joined Case Western Reserve University as a Fulbright post-doctoral fellow, and became an Assistant Professor in the Center of Mitochondrial Disease Department of Pharmacology at Case Western Reserve University and an investigator in the Center of Inherited Disorders of Energy Metabolism. While there, she performed research centered on the causal role of mitochondrial dysfunction in the development of insulin resistance, diabetic complications and heart failure. Dr. Rosca served as a principal investigator and co-investigator for projects funded by the Fulbright Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, United Mitochondrial Diseases Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health. She is an invited reviewer for scientific journals (Circulation, Diabetes, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Cardiovascular Research) and research grants (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), and an editorial board member for the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental therapeutics.
Her present laboratory is performing both basic and translational research focused on therapeutic approaches to correct mitochondrial dysfunction in primary mitochondrial diseases as well as in mitochondrial abnormalities induced by diabetes and high-fat diet.
