Dr. Vance, a Saginaw native, is a 1997 graduate from Alma College and a 2001 graduate from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Grand Rapids MERC/Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital. He returned to Saginaw with his family in 2004, joining the Covenant Healthcare Emergency Physicians Group and shortly thereafter became core faculty with the Emergency Medicine residency program. His primary area of focus was the use of ultrasound in the ED, especially for invasive procedures. In 2007, Dr. Vance became the founding director of the Department of Medical Simulation at Synergy Medical Education Alliance (now CMU Medical Education Partners). Under his leadership, the center has continued to expand its learner base and educational opportunities, conducting more than 6000 learner hours of training this year. Currently, as the Assistant Dean of Academic and Clinical Technology, he works alongside the College of Medicine IT department to conceptualize, develop and adopt best practice as it pertains to instructional and clinical systems. He enjoys working at the intersection of medical education and technology; areas of scholarly interest include clinical simulation, psychomotor skills training, patient safety and the use of E-learning in medical education. Dr. Vance resides in Saginaw Township with his wife, Sara, and their three sons Collin, Brady and Owen.
