  • Accredited in 1969, we are the oldest accredited residency program in the nation and the first to be accredited in the state of Michigan.
  • A broad spectrum of clinical problems are seen in the Family Medicine Center and in Saginaw's two major hospitals.
  • Opportunity to perform many different procedures in the Department's Procedures Center, including nasolaryngoscopy, infrared coagulation of hemorrhoids, cryosurgery, joint injections, minor office surgery, and skin surgery including flaps and plasties.
  • Strong supportive relationships with full-time and volunteer community faculty, including obstetrical, perinatology, and pediatric sub-specialty faculty.
  • Wide range of electives from which to choose, with the opportunity for one-on-one teaching from a full array of specialists.
  • Department-directed clinics in Office Procedures and Ambulatory Geriatrics provide unique training opportunities.          
  • Nationally acclaimed faculty that have presented multiple presentations at state, regional, and national levels, as well as serving as teaching faculty for the American Academy of Family Physicians.
  • Of the programs' 200-plus graduates, more than half have remained in Michigan, many still practicing in the surrounding Saginaw area.
