College of Medicine Residency Programs
Strong tradition of residency programs in Saginaw

CMU College of Medicine graduate medical education programs build upon a long tradition of Saginaw physicians working with residents.

When CMU launched its medical school in 2009, it partnered with Saginaw-based Covenant HealthCare and St. Mary's of Michigan hospitals to work with residency programs that had been in place for more than 40 years.

Now our graduate medical education programs link to the overall mission of the CMU College of Medicine as it aims to be the authoritative source of physicians in underserved and rural areas of Michigan.

The CMU College of Medicine administrative offices for the residency program are located at 1000 Houghton Ave., in Saginaw, also home to CMU Health, one of our clinical locations that offers a variety of primary and specialty care services.
We record more than 40,000 patient visits annually and maintain a medical library that acts as the health sciences library for the region.

The CMU College of Medicine manages five residencies and one fellowship program located at Covenant and St. Mary's, accredited through the ACGME.

They include:
Emergency Medicine

Family Medicine Obstetrics and Gynecology
Internal Medicine  Psychiatry

In addition, CMU also provides educational experience to residents and students in several areas, including: pediatrics, simulation and rheumatology services.

Locations

The CMU College of Medicine has campuses in Mount Pleasant and Saginaw. The Central Michigan campus is the primary site for education of first- and second-year medical students, for its central administration (this includes general administration, clinical, research and education administration) and for the conduct of its research programs. The Saginaw sites primarily are for third- and fourth-year medical students, training of residents in CMU Health clinics and local graduate medical education administration.

In 2013, construction started on a 46,000-square foot CMU College of Medicine educational building on the campus of Covenant Healthcare. The project is was completed recently and will welcome the first class of third-year medical students in July. The facility includes a state-of-the-art simulation center and four advanced technology classrooms. Residency programs will use the classrooms, labs, training spaces and library.
