Geography Outreach Materials

​​​Geography is an essential element of 21st century education.  More than just maps, geography is the study of cultures, commerce, and environments more fundamental than ever in our globally connected world.  Our outreach projects are designed to engage children and their families in interesting and educational activities.

Michigan Giant Traveling Map

The National Geographic Giant Traveling Map is Michigan was given to the state by the National Geographic Society as an expression of the Society's commitment to educating students about the world and empowering them to make a difference.  This state map was created using the expertise of National Geographic's Cartographic Division and recent research on spatial thinking development in children.  The classroom-sized maps, measuring 16 feet by 20 feet, give student explorers a chance to get out of their seats and experience Michigan through rich content and exciting activities.

Family Geography Night Kit

The Family Geography Night Kit​ is available on loan from the MGA ($75 to offset shipping and handling) to help your school host a dynamic event which will invite families to experience geography and think critically while exploring the power of global knowledge.  The Family Geography Night Kit contains directions and manipulatives for 10 exciting activities that can be adjusted for your grade level.

Schoolyard BioBlitz Kit

Available for load for the cost of shipping, this kit has resources to help support the activities in our Schoolyard BioBlitz Toolkit. From clipboard to microscopes, these materials will make your event more enriching...and easier to organize
