ATCG Analysis Equipment

ATCG uses the following equipment to help conduct analyses:

ABI 310 Prism Genetic Analyzer.
ATCG Labs is equipped with two ABI 310 automated DNA sequencers. The genetic analyzer is designed for a wide range of sequencing and fragment analysis applications. It performs comparative sequencing, linkage analysis, SNP detection, discovery and validation as well as mutation detection.

Eppendorf BioPhotometer.
The biophotometer performs a rapid and reliable quantification of ds/ss DNA, RNA, proteins, oligonucleotides and bacteria cell density measurement. Single use uvets minimize the possibility of contamination between samples.

Eppendorf Thermomixer.
The thermomixer provides continuous heating and shaking of 24 x 1.5 mL tubles.

Fisher Vortex Genie-2.
The vortex is used to suspend cells in test tubes and centrifuge tubes by oscillating rapidly in a circular motion.

A centrifuge is designed to separate materials of different density from each other by virtue of centrifugal force.

Two thermocyclers are sequestered in the PCR room containing amplified DNA to a single location and minimizing the possibility of contamination. A Mastercycler repeatedly cycles through various temperatures required for a frequentative, temperature-dependent chemical process such as the polymerase chain reaction.

ATCG laboratory uses species-specific sets of pipettes to minimize the possibility of cross contamination.
