With hands-on learning and field- and laboratory-based research, CMU's Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences offers you the opportunity to explore a field that combines sophisticated technologies with research that can help you better understand our planet.
You will have opportunities to conduct original research in the field and work on campus with state-of-the-art equipment such as:
- Electron microprobe
- ICP-MS instrument
- X-ray fluorescence spectrometer
- Ion chromatograph
In addition, you will have opportunities to engage in fieldwork in local rivers and mountains throughout the United States as well as participate in research projects with faculty members and present your findings at national science conferences.
