Scholarships

The Department of Fashion, Interior Design, and Merchandising offers several scholarships for students to provide financial assistance towards the completion of their degree.

New Scholarship information will be posted in the spring of 2021.

Donna Poynor Endowed Scholarship

About:  ​It is the intent of the Donor that this gift be used to support an undergraduate scholarship exclusively within the College of Education and Human Services’ Fashion Merchandising and Design program. The basis of this award includes Academic Excellence and Professional Promise.

Requirements:

  • Full time FMD Student
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 
  • Preference will be given to applicants from a rural county in Michigan (as defined by the State of Michigan).  
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have excelled in quality garment construction and patternmaking

Freddie Link Simonds Scholarship

About: Established in 1987 to honor Freddie Link Simonds. Income from the endowment will support a scholarship for a junior or senior with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who is enrolled in the Department of Fashion, Interior Design, and Merchandising. Part-time attendance or withdrawal from the university will result in cancellation of the scholarship. 


Requirements:

  • Full time FMD student
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 
  • Demonstrate community or university involvement and/or
  • Demonstrate active organizational membership

Helen Lohr Scholarship

About:  Established in 1987 through the estate of Helen M. Lohr. The basis of this award includes Academic Excellence, Leadership and/or Creativity and Professional Promise.


Requirements:

  • Full time FMD sophomore or junior Student 
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 
  • Demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and/or Creativity and Professional Promise
  • Demonstrate community or university involvement and/or organizational membership

Saadia Saif Endowed Scholarship

About:  Established in 2016 by Dr. Saadia Saif, professor emeritus in the College of Education and Human Services, Department of Human Development and Family Studies. Income from the endowment will support a renewable award for a junior or higher student enrolled in any major within the College of Education and Human Services Human Development and Family Studies. The basis of this award includes Academic Excellence and Professional Promise.


Requirements:

  • Full time FMD junior or senior student
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and/or Creativity and Professional Promise
  • Demonstrate active organizational membership

Tracey Rondy Memorial Scholarship

About:  Established in 2006 in memory of Tracey Marie Rondy by her parents Gary and Maureen (Class of 1984) Rondy, sister Tara Rondy (2000), family and friends. Income from the endowment will support a scholarship for a fulltime CMU student with a minimum 3.0 GPA who attended a public, private, or alternative education school in Mt. Pleasant, Shepherd, Beal City, Alma, Ashley, Breckenridge, Ithaca, or St. Louis. Preference will be given to students with a signed major in interior design and/or who worked on the vocational education house while attending the Mt. Pleasant High School Vocational/Technical Center. 


Requirements:

  • Majoring in Interior Design
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Attended a public, private, or alternative education school in Mt. Pleasant, Alma, Ashley, Bay City, Breckinridge, Ithaca, Shepherd, St. Louis schools
  • Preference will be given to students with a signed major in interior design and/or who worked on the vocational education house while attending the Mt. Pleasant High School Vocational/Technical Center.
