Internship FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I do my internship at a site I have volunteered at or my current place of employment?
You are encouraged to seek a site where you haven't volunteered and/or worked at the site for more than a semester. By selecting a new site, you will be more challenged. If you completed some volunteer hours at the site for training or for HDF 219, that's fine.

2. How many hours do I have to work each week?
The number of hours you work each week will vary depending on how many credits you take and which semester you choose to complete your internship. You must work 45 hours per each credit hour you are registered for during the corresponding semester. A complete schedule can be found in How To Register.

3. How do I find an internship site?
First, make an appointment with the internship coordinator to identify internship opportunities that may be suitable to your anticipated career goals. It will be your responsibility to contact prospective sites to inquire about internship opportunities that exist. If you don't know if a particular site will accept interns, call and ask if there is someone you can talk to about internships. Always be prepared to send a cover letter and resume to prospective sites.
