Accelerated Master's Degree in Apparel Product Development and Merchandising Technology

Five years. Two degrees. One program.
If you're a Fashion Merchandising and Design major pursuing a bachelor of arts, bachelor of applied arts or a bachelor of science degree, you can apply nine hours of graduate work toward both a bachelor's and master's degree.

The Apparel Product Development and Merchandising Technology (APDMT) accelerated master's degree prepares graduates for great jobs in the fashion industry, as well as for careers in higher education and government.

For admission requirements, applicants must:

  • Be within 30 credit hours of graduation
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.3, or a 3.3 GPA in the last 60 hours of coursework
  • Complete all university requirements
  • Have a signed Fashion Merchandising and Design major on a B.S., B.A. or B.A.A. degree

The following application materials are required:

  • Graduate program application available at
  • Accelerated Master’s Degree Program Application
  • Three letters of recommendation, including at least two from faculty. The third letter may be from another faculty, or from a professional who can address your capacity to succeed as a graduate student.
  • Official transcripts sent from each university attended (other than CMU).
  • A 2-4 page, typed, double-spaced essay that (Part I) describes how previous experiences and training have prepared and led the applicant to pursue a Master of Science degree in Apparel Product Development and Merchandising Technology (APDMT) and (Part II) identifies likely professional goals and how graduate training can help accomplish these goals.

  • One graduate course in statistics
Year Five (Spring)
