Interior design majors are required to complete an internship as part of their course of study. This two credit course (IND 438) is offered in the summer semester for a period of 12 weeks. Students must complete IND 338, Internship Preparation for Interior Design, prior to completing their internship. In addition, students must register for IND 433, Professional Practices in Interior Design, in the fall semester following their internship.

| Criteria for Internship Sites |

-Variety of work experiences the employer will provide
-Stability of employment and possible pay requirements

-Accessibility of location

-The work environment and duties to which students will be exposed

-Willingness of the employer to work closely with individual students

-Willingness of supervisor to individualize instruction
-Willingness of supervisor to provide training for expected tasks

-Involvement of employers in the educational process

-Willingness of supervisor to provide evaluation of student in order to assess student performance​
