I am a proud to be a CMU alumni where I received my degree in Early Childhood Education.  I started working at CMU in 2001. Since then I have had the pleasure of working with an amazing variety of CMU students, families, children and co-workers.  While I enjoy every aspect of working with children, I do have a special interest in the arts.  I have been privileged to have had the opportunity to visit Reggio and Reggio inspired schools in Italy, focusing on the arts.  I have also attended Two National Art Educators Association conferences in the U.S.   I am honored to be working at a school that supports and highly values the importance of art in early childhood.  When not at work I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband Mark, three adult daughters and pre-teen granddaughter Alexandra, a CDLL alumni who still enjoys being able to occasionally come to school with me.

This is my second year working at the front desk at the CDLL. What I enjoy most is getting to know the families and watching the children grow throughout the year. I am also currently working on a degree in Early Childhood Education. I was lucky enough to travel with the CDLL team to visit a preschool in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Outside of school I enjoy riding my horse, spending time with my cats & dogs, watching movies, and cooking.

I hope you enjoy this poem and learn a little bit about me,
My name is Mya and I'm a junior at Central Michigan University.
I work in the CDLL either at the front desk or in the kitchen,
My goal here is to help out and be a positive role model to the children.
Gaining new experiences, learning, and exploring the world is what I favor,
Which is why I love to travel and I'm a Cultural and Global Studies major.
My minor is Sociology with a concentration in Youth Studies,
I'm from Mt. Pleasant and passionate about helping Michigan's communities.
I'm a member of many programs through the Volunteer Center here at CMU;
Lunch Buddies, Conversation Partners, and Alternative Breaks to name a few.
I'm compassionate towards the environment, animals, and humans,
So I'm friendly, I recycle, and I'm a proud vegetarian.
At 5 years old you'd find me drawing, dancing, or playing with a Barbie,
Enjoying nature by being outdoors is what I do for fun now that I'm 20.
Here teachers, students, families, and children all learning together is what you'll find,
And I'm honored to be part of this preschool, it is truly one-of-a-kind.
If I see you everyday at the CDLL, or it's your first time walking through,
I'm the really short girl with curly hair and I'd love to get to know you!

I am a proud Alumni of CMU and a Certified Montessori Teacher through the North American Montessori Center.  I spend much of my time here at the CDLL working on cooking activities with the children and I love to share my gardening passion with them as well.  It is a joy to watch them plant a seed, watch it grow, then help harvest and cook their produce!  In my spare time I enjoy spending time outside with my family, working in my garden and playing the violin.

Mari graduated from CMU in 1996 with a degree in Child Development.  She worked with the Head Start program for 22 years before becoming a member of the CDLL teaching team in 2010.  Implementing the Reggio Emilia approach with young children has been truly inspiring for her.  She had the opportunity, recently, to work with the Study Abroad Program at CMU, working at two orphanages in Oaxaca Mexico.  She also fulfilled a lifelong dream of volunteering in Nepal.  She worked with the children at the Early Childhood Development Center/Butterfly Home in Kathmandu, for 2 summers in a row, and she plans to volunteer there again in the near future.

I am a graduate of CMU with a B.A.A degree in Child Development and Psychology.  I went on to receive an Elementary Education Certification in 2006.   I worked as an Early Head Start Home Visitor for three years before having my first child.  I chose to leave my job and stay home with my daughter.  I had another child in 2012.  I very much enjoyed spending time as a stay at home mom.  I was offered the opportunity to work at the CDLL in October of 2014.  I decided it would be an amazing opportunity, so I joined the workforce once again as an Assistant Teacher.  When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family at home or traveling.
