Professional Development

The Central Michigan GEMS Education Center (CMGEC) provides a variety of professional development opportunities for teachers, schools, and school districts:

The Central Michigan GEMS Education Center currently has developed partnerships with two sites:Clare Primary School in Clare, Michigan and Odyssey Middle/High School in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

Both of these schools work with Central Michigan University, The College of Education and Human Services, the Department of Teacher Education and Professional Development, and the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Services Administration.

Clare Primary School:​ Clare, MI
​Clare Primary School serves grades kindergarten through fourth grade. Clare has been a PDS site since January 2005. Clare is a PDS for science, math, environmental, and technology education.

Odyssey Middle/High School: ​Mt. Pleasant, MI
Odyssey School is an alternative middle school and high school in the Shepherd School District. Situated on 81 acres of forest and wetlands, the school is the home of the Odyssey Nature Project (ONP) where Odyssey students conduct environmental education programs for visiting elementary students every fall and spring. CMU preservice teachers and outdoor education majors work with Odyssey students to create lesson plans and activity books for the elementary students who come for interpretative walks on the extensive trail system on the property.
