Instructors for Super Saturday

The GEMS (Great Explorations in Math and Science) Center is looking for teacher education and child development students to take part in Super Saturday, a popular enrichment program offering courses for pre-K through fifth grade students. Super Saturday offers courses related to science and mathematics and emphasizes creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning. This program consists of one mandatory 3-hour training on Janurary 31 and three mandatory 3-hour courses with elementary students on February 14, 21, and 28.

GEMS Leaders

The GEMS (Great Explorations in Math and Science) Center is looking for pre-service teachers to help present at GEMS workshops for the Fall 2014 semester. As a GEMS leader, you would take part in the presentation of 3-5 workshops. You would also attend a few short meetings to help you prepare for upcoming workshops. Being a GEMS Leader will allow you to gain valuable experience with quality math and science materials and provide professional development opportunities for fellow pre-service teachers.

STEM Involvement Events

The GEMS Center also presents Family Math, Family Science, and Family Engineering events in local schools, libraries, and museums. We are looking for student volunteers who would like to gain valuable experience with STEM programs as well as with students and their families.  STEM Involvement Events are 90-minute classes where parents and their children work on math, science, and STEM related scenarios and solve those problems together in an engaging manner.  As a volunteer you commit to attending a training session on the program and volunteering for 2-5 of these events per year.
