Instructors for Super Saturday
The GEMS (Great
Explorations in Math and Science) Center is looking for teacher education and
child development students to take part in Super Saturday, a popular enrichment
program offering courses for pre-K through fifth grade students. Super Saturday
offers courses related to science and mathematics and emphasizes creativity,
critical thinking, and independent learning. This program consists of one
mandatory 3-hour training on Janurary 31 and three mandatory 3-hour courses with elementary students on February 14, 21, and 28.
The GEMS (Great
Explorations in Math and Science) Center is looking for pre-service teachers to
help present at GEMS workshops for the Fall 2014 semester. As a GEMS leader,
you would take part in the presentation of 3-5 workshops. You would also attend
a few short meetings to help you prepare for upcoming workshops. Being a GEMS
Leader will allow you to gain valuable experience with quality math and science
materials and provide professional development opportunities for fellow
STEM Involvement Events
The GEMS Center also
presents Family Math, Family Science, and Family Engineering events in local
schools, libraries, and museums. We are looking for student volunteers who
would like to gain valuable experience with STEM programs as well as with
students and their families. STEM Involvement Events are 90-minute
classes where parents and their children work on math, science, and STEM
related scenarios and solve those problems together in an engaging
manner. As a volunteer you commit to attending a training session on the
program and volunteering for 2-5 of these events per year.
