Ways to Give

Department of Statistics, Actuarial & Data Sciences General Fund

Contributions to the STAD fund will support student activities, student and faculty conferences, research related activities and upgrading instructional equipment and facilities that inspire and foster learning.
Miles Actuarial Award 

This award supports students with actuarial majors who perform well in courses preparing for the SOA Actuarial Exams and successfully passe one or more of the Actuarial Exams offered by the Society of Actuary (e.g., P, FM, SRM and LTAM). The award assists in the expense of taking these exams, preference is given to active members of the Gamma Iota Sigma Club. Established in 2007 by Dr. Thomas Miles and his wife Cindy Miles. Dr. Miles is an Emeritus professor at CMU, he was teaching at the Department of Mathematics for 37 years. 

Daniel & Barbara Wardrop Endowed Fund for Applied Statistics & Actuarial Science 

This scholarship supports outstanding undergraduate students entering their senior year of study in either statistics or actuarial science, planning to earn a masters or doctoral degree in the fields of applied statistics or actuarial science with preference given to students who desire to attend Virginia Tech University for their graduate program. Established in 2019 by Daniel Wardrop and his wife Barbara Wardrop, who are both CMU alumni from the Class of 1978. 

This award will support outstanding junior or senior students in the Department of Statistics, Actuarial and Data Sciences. Established in 2010 by Dr. Jungsywan Sepanski a professor at the Department of Statistics, Actuarial and Data Sciences at CMU. 

Lee Statistics Endowed Award 

This award will support outstanding sophomore students in the Department of Statistics, Actuarial and Data Sciences who received an A- in Calculus I or AP Calculus at least 4 points, and received an A- in Elementary Statistics or AP Statistics at least 4 points with demonstrated financial need. Established in 2013 by Dr. Carl Lee and his wife Ye-Fu Lee. Dr Lee is a professor and Department Chairperson at the Department of Statistics, Actuarial and Data Sciences and Mrs. Lee was working at CMU as a Programming Analyst for 20 years. 

Felix & Busola Famoye Scholarship 

This award will support outstanding junior and senior students in the Department of Statistics, Actuarial and Data Sciences with demonstrated financial need. Established in 2019 by Dr. Felix Famoye and his wife Busola Famoye. Dr Famoye is a professor at the Department of Statistics, Actuarial and Data Sciences at CMU and his wife is a CMU alumni Class of 1991, 1993 and 2004.
