Refunds, Payments & Billing

As we navigate the days and weeks ahead, CMU is here to support you and your family. The following updates are being made to benefits and services.

Most students who live in on-campus housing are eligible to receive credit for housing and meals; students who remained living on campus from March 22 thru May 9 and those who received a full room-and-board scholarship are not eligible for credit.

The credit amount for the spring semester takes into account differences in housing types listed below and include credit for residential meal plans. Flex dollars are factored into the cost of residential meal plans, and the credit amount includes those flex dollars.

CMU CARES Act Student Assistance Fund Application

Main campus students may apply for a CMU CARES Student Assistance Fund grant. Must demonstrate financial hardship. See required criteria.

Funding is limited, and students will be considered on the basis of the application and time of submission.

Note: Students with a FAFSA on file and were eligible for the CMU CARES Grant of $500 received this grant the week of May 11. Students may receive both, and are encouraged to apply for the CMU CARES Student Assistance Grant.

Defer Fall 2020 tuition to Nov. 1

For many, it is hard to know what the next few months will look like. You can postpone your first tuition payment for charges not covered by student loans and financial aid to November 1.

Deferred payment deadlines

To recognize the financial hardships that students may be facing during these difficult times:

  • CMU will not assign fees for late payments in April and May.
  • CMU will not place holds on student accounts that have past-due balances for April, allowing students to proceed with registration.
  • All past-due accounts with a balance below $2,000 will be allowed to register for future semesters

CMU is offering deferments, extensions and flexibility to students in current payment plan agreements.

Multi-Semester Registration

In times of uncertainty, it can be reassuring to establish a path forward. We encourage all students to consider the option of multi-semester registration, which can shorten the path to degree attainment, ultimately saving time and tuition dollars.

You now have the option to search and register for courses through Spring 2021, but you will not be asked to pre-pay. Each semester will have its own fee payment deadline, and financial aid disbursements will continue to remain the same each semester.
