Name: Shea Seckel
Hometown: Yale, Michigan
Major: Special Education. My secondary major is cognitive impairment.
How I Ended Up At CMU: The teacher education program really impressed me. I had some excellent teachers in my K-12 educational experience that made a huge impact on my life. I want to want to make a positive impact on the lives of students, like those teachers that had mentored and assisted me.
Favorite Professor And Why: Dr. Susan Nottingham is fantastic! She utilizes unique teaching methods and makes attending class fun.
Favorite Thing to Do On Campus: I love attending diversity events, and I also utilize the writing center all of the time.
Scholarship Experience (how it impacted you): without the help of a generous donor who supported me, I may not have been able to fulfill my dream of graduating from CMU with a degree in Special Education. The support of a scholarship has allowed me to flourish at CMU and I will graduate in the spring of 2010.
Career Ambitions: I want to be a special education teacher at the high school level and be involved in student council. I also would like to coach a sport.
Why I Believe Giving Back is Important: It is important to give someone like me a chance to attend and graduate from CMU. It is important to create an opportunity for students who may not have had the chance to attend CMU without assistance. Thank you for supporting CMU and students like myself!
