On Friday, June 18, 2021, CMU hosted its inagural Juneteenth Celebration. The event was full of speeches, conversation and education, topped off with ice cream! About 150 participants gathered together outside of Warriner Hall to mark this historic event. Speakers included:
  • Stan Shingles, Assistant Vice President of Univeristy Recreation & Student Engagement
  • Dr. Shawna Patterson-Stephens, Vice President/Chief Diversity Officer
  • Will Joseph, Mount Pleasant City Mayor
  • Elashia Jackson, CMU Student Leader
  • Dr. Nikita Murry, Director of the Office of Diversity Education

OFFICE OF DIVERSITY EDUCATION MISSION STATEMENT​

Expand your view of the world and improve your cultural competence by participating in programs and services offered through the Office of Diversity Education at Central Michigan University.  You'll learn how to communicate with diverse groups of people and use differing experiences, backgrounds and perspective to uncover creative solutions to personal and professional challenges.

The Office of Diversity Education offers opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to enhance their cultural competence by:

  • Providing intercultural education
  • Facilitating campus wide interaction
  • Building collaborative partnerships to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Implementing educational opportunities that cultivate and sustain a supportive and inclusive campus community
