We join today as the CMU community to offer support and healing to
the victims of violence in Orlando, their families, friends,
communities, loved ones, and for victims across the world. The LGBTQI
community, like many marginalized communities in the US and the world,
continues to experience violence and tragedy that is senseless and
We believe three points are key at this time:
1. Senseless violence isn't who we are as human beings. Violence has become more and more commonplace, and we need to address it as a community, and a society, with families and friends.
2. Differences among human beings are natural. We appreciate and learn from those differences.
3. Here at home, if anyone sees that someone is struggling emotionally,
mentally and/or physically, there are resources here at CMU and in our
Mount Pleasant community that can help: the Office for Institutional
Diversity & Inclusion at 989-774-3700 and LGBTQ Student and
Community Services at 989-774-3637; CMU Counseling Center 989-774-3381;
and the SAPA Office (Sexual Aggression Peer Awareness) (989) 774-CALL.
