Dr. A.T. Miller became CMU's first chief diversity officer in 2018. Dr. Miller has taught, directed and founded Africana studies programs grounded in the U.S. African-American experience and headed a secondary school in Kenya in the 1980s that now bears his name.
Dr. Frimpomaa Ampaw is a Professor in the department of Educational Leadership. She is also the director of the Center for Applied Research Studies (CARRS). Dr. Ampaw teaches Quantitative Analysis, Advanced Quantitative Analysis, and Finance in Higher Education. Dr. Ampaw's research interests include retention and persistence in higher education; minorities and women in science education, and labor market outcomes of higher education.
Dr. Tracy Galarowicz is a Professor and Chairperson in the department of Biology. Dr. Galarowicz research interests include the ecology of freshwater fish, the processes and mechanisms influencing growth and survival of fish populations, and the patterns of fish habitat use.
Dr. Lisa Gandy is an Associate Professor and Chairperson-elect in the department of Computer Science. Dr. Gandy's research interests include using natural language processing techniques to help clinicians manage clinical trial data, and studying how social media affects new parents. Dr. Gandy's current role in the ADVANCE grant is grant communications and leading a group of faculty in reviewing university documents in relation to gender equity.
Dr. Katrina Piatek-Jimenez is a Professor in the department of Mathematics. Dr. Piatek-Jimenez research interests include equity in mathematics education, motivation for mathematical careers, stereotypes of mathematicians, and undergraduate students' understanding of proofs and the language of mathematics.
