Now that you have been admitted, let us guide you through the next steps toward enrollment and a smooth transition to life as a CMU Chippewa.
Establish your CMU connection
Your first step is setting up your Global ID. You'll need it for almost everything including:
- Submitting your new student orientation fee
- Receiving your student ID number and Global ID
- Setting up an official CMU email account
- Applying for financial aid
- Registering for classes and housing
You will need your unique "New CMU Account PIN" that was included on the letter inside your official admission packet. If you run into any snags, contact the Help Desk at 989-774-3662 or
Pay the enrollment reservation deposit
Officially reserve your place in the incoming class by submitting your one-time new enrollment reservation deposit of $175. Once you set up your Global ID in step one, you may pay online at
https://netconnect.cmich.edu/OrientationRegistration/Login.aspx. The enrollment reservation deposit is fully refundable if you cancel your admission to CMU prior to May 1 (or December 1 if you are beginning classes in the spring semester).
Check in frequently
Now that you have a cmich.edu email address, be sure to check it frequently for important pieces of communication from the university. You may find it helpful to forward your CMU emails to an account you already have. Instructions are located at myaccount.cmich.edu.
Apply for financial aid
In addition to any financial awards you may have received in your admission packet, you will still want to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It is available at fafsa.gov after Jan. 1 and should be submitted by Feb. 15 to be considered for priority aid programs. CMU's school code is 002243. For additional information and assistance, visit financialaid.cmich.edu or contact CMU's Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid at 888-392-0007 or
Choose an orientation date
New students are required to attend an on-campus summer orientation (or November if you are beginning classes in January). Get ready to discover the Central Experience! During your orientation session you will meet advisors and other students, explore majors and minors, register for classes, and get your campus ID card. Visit cmich.edu/orientation for complete details. Dates and a link to registration will be available beginning in January.
Reserve your room
Visit housing.cmich.edu to get started on selecting a residence hall, and even a roommate, that is right for you! Among the benefits of living in a residence hall, you'll have opportunities to meet with academic advisors right where you live, and enjoy flexible and convenient dining options and fitness facilities.
