The Michigan Legislative Branch is comprised of the House of Representatives and Senate. Both play a critical role in the development and passing of state laws while representing residents who reside in their districts. The House consists of 110 Representatives who are elected by the qualified electors of districts having approximately 77,000 to 91,000 residents.   The Senate consists of 38 members who are elected by the qualified electors of districts having approximately 212,400 to 263,500 residents.  Students with an interest or background in community or communication-based experiences can greatly benefit from gaining internships within the Legislature. In addition, majors in the sciences and human services fields (ex. sociology, teaching, psychology, biology, environmental health and safety...) can also benefit from these experiences based on the committees that Legislative members are involved in.

Students select an office on a variety of criteria including district, committee involvement, issues and party affiliation. Use the information below to find your best fit!
