We hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy as you navigate the crisis facing our communities. Although we would rather host you on our beautiful campus, our goal is to meet you where you are (literally!) and get you ready to make the important transition to Central Michigan University. We hope you find the Virtual New Student Orientation informative as you envision your new future here at Central.

All New Student Orientations scheduled through August 6 are now virtual experiences.
If you are registered for one of these dates, you will receive an email with instructions about logging into your LIVE session and completing requirements one week before.

Before Your Orientation Session

4 Required Steps On Your Orientation Day

Students will receive two emails no earlier than one week prior to their assigned orientation date: (1) Instructions for logging into the LIVE session, and (2) Their unique 1-1 Advising Appointment. Visit mail.cmich.edu to check your CMICH email.

On your orientation day, you will join your new classmates for a two part, LIVE session. The first hour of the session is a general overview of CMU and campus resources. The second hour, you will meet with an Academic Advisor, mentor, and new classmates in a small advising team meeting.

Students can log in during their assigned mentor’s office hours before their afternoon Academic Advising appointment to explore course search, degree progress, and other online tools. Students will receive further instructions in their advising team meeting as part of the LIVE session.
After participating in the live session and viewing a pre-recorded session, a 1-on-1 phone or video appointment with an academic advisor is required. During this time, you will discuss your course schedule and enroll in courses.

  • Students will receive their 1 on 1 advising appointment time via email. This is a required appointment in order to be able to enroll in classes. If you must reschedule your academic advising appointment, there will be a “reschedule appointment” link in the email to reschedule online using the You Can Book Me platform.
Attending your advising appointment is required to enrolled in courses.

Parent and Family Services

Family is CENTRAL to student success! Connect with Parent and Family Services.

Welcome to the CMU family! Your encouragement and support are critical to the success of your student as they prepare to start their journey on campus in the fall.

There are four main ways to engage and assist your student this summer:
  1. You are invited to attend the first half of the Virtual Orientation program with your student on their assigned date - from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. They will then enter a smaller virtual space with their new peers. Your student will receive a unique link and log-in information via email no earlier than one week prior to their date.
  2. We prepared a number of pre-recorded, self-paced sessions specifically for family members on this page available all summer long.
  3. All CMU departments are accepting phone calls and virtual appointments throughout the summer. Call, email, and set up virtual appointments to meet your individual needs.
  4. Finally, we are offering an optional 1-hour Family Friday webinar at 12:00 pm (EST), the Friday following your student’s assigned orientation date!
Family Friday is a one-hour live webinar introduction to campus and academic life, with content designed specifically to answer your frequently asked questions. This event will be hosted by CMU professionals, with additional opportunities to talk with current students about their personal experience in special areas of their life at Central Michigan University.

Once your student has registered for Orientation, you are automatically enrolled in the Friday program following your student’s Orientation. If you do not receive your personal invitation link by the Tuesday prior to your date or wish to attend a different date, please email us.

The Family Friday dates following your student’s Orientation week are as follows:
Week 1 (May 26, 27, 28): Family Friday, May 29
Week 2 (June 2, 3, 4): Family Friday, June 5
Week 3 (June 9, 10, 11): Family Friday, June 12
Week 4 (June 16, 17, 18): Family Friday, June 19
Week 5 (June 23, 24, 25): Family Friday, June 26
