Esports at Central Michigan University
For nearly five years, students have been organizing competitive tournaments at CMU, including players from colleges around the region, and forming teams to compete in national tournaments. Today, more than 100 students participate in weekly, non-competitive gameplay sessions, and dozens more play on one of four competitive CMU teams: League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
CMU esports teams, the College of Science and Engineering, and the Center for Excellence in STEM at the College of Education and Human Services have collaboratively hosted events for area middle and high school students, creating connections to potential future students. With faculty and staff support, esports players host two large events every year, raising money for several charitable organizations around Michigan and the U.S.
