The issues CMU students face mirror the same issues seen across the country. Mental health and emotional distress encompass a wide variety of issues – including depression, anxiety, financial issues, academic concerns, alcohol use, grief and loss, roommate issues, sexual assault, suicide, eating disorders, and more.
Often, when people notice potentially dangerous or problematic situations, they worry that it’s not their place to get involved or that they will do the wrong thing.
This is called being a bystander.
Throughout history there have been several well-documented cases of people who suffered severe trauma, and even died, while people stood around and did nothing.
Let’s make sure this does not happen on our campus or in our community. “Take Care” of others in the CMU community. Don’t hesitate to offer help, alert the authorities or fill out a CARE Report.
