Water Safety Instructor
To instruct participants in swimming skills and aquatic safety according to American Red Cross standards. Major Duties:
Provide customer service to potential and current participants of Learn to Swim program; facilitate designed lesson plan; supervise the pool and deck of aquatic centers; complete all necessary paperwork and progress cards; set-up and tear down for class; present "land" educational/safety sessions; enforce all pool regulations set by University Recreation; prevent accidents and minimize/eliminate hazardous situations in pool areas; respond quickly to all emergency situations using proper procedures/techniques; attend all scheduled staff meetings, in-services and workshops; other duties as assigned.
CMU student (undergraduate or graduate) who is interested in teaching in an aquatic setting. Able to perform/demonstrate all skills teaching; able to tread water for an extended period of time.
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certified; Adult, Child and Infant CPR and Standard First Aid; Right-to-Know Training; Blood Borne Pathogen; . CMU Criminal History Background Verification. Must be obtained once position as been offered and accepted.
