Find your Fit Buddy

The Fit Buddy program pairs you with an individual or group to assist in accountability towards your health and wellness goals! Each week, your buddy/group will be given prompts to go through during your meeting time(s). Each buddy pair/group schedules their own fitness time(s) and determines their fitness activity. Register to meet others who share your health and wellness goals! 

Group Training

Different than our regular group fitness classes, series classes offer participants a 6-week commitment that will allow you to grow and sustain your new habit!

Barre Fitness Specialty Series

Jan 15 – Feb 21, 2019 (Tuesday and Thursday) | 7:30 AM-8:30 AM | Rose 134 Studio

Low/Medium Intensity - No experience necessary! Barre is a combination of ballet, Pilates and yoga-inspired exercises designed to strengthen, sculpt and lengthen your muscles. Small weighted-balls, mini-stability balls and mat-based work will be incorporated throughout to give you a full-body workout. With high reps and low weight, this class is guaranteed to make you feel the burn! Please bring your own mat or check one out at the Fitness Center.

Yoga Foundations Specialty Series 

Mar 18 – Apr 24, 2019 (Monday and Wednesday) | 5:30 PM-6:20 PM | SAC NIRSA Room

Low/Medium Intensity - No experience necessary Learn the basics, alignment, and foundation to begin or deepen your yoga practice. In this six-week series you will review alignment and breath, how to move between postures, and the benefits of adding yoga into your routine. After this course you will feel prepared to attend yoga classes or practice at home with confidence.

Learn to Lift (3-week)

Session I: Jan 14 – Jan 30, 2019 (Monday and Wednesday) | 7:30 AM-8:30AM | Fitness & Weight Training Center

Session II: Feb 4-Feb 20, 2019 (Monday and Wednesday) | 7:30 AM-8:30AM | Fitness & Weight Training Center

Low/Medium Intensity - No experience necessaryThis 3-week introductory lifting class serves as a long-term educational orientation to the fitness center and weight room, specifically the cardio vascular exercise and resistance training machines.

Strength Training Foundations

Jan 14 – Feb 20, 2019 (Monday and Wednesday) | 8:30AM-9:30AM |SAC Weight Training Center

Low/Medium Intensity - No experience necessary This 6-week class serves as a long-term educational orientation to the weight room. This Introductory strength training class will help you learn correct form and progressions for main compound movements in a motivating and non-judgmental environment.

Total Functional Fitness

Jan 14 – Feb 20, 2019 (Monday and Wednesday) | 7:30PM-8:15PM | SAC MP Fit

Medium/High Intensity Challenge both your strength and cardiovascular abilities by executing various functional movements. Functional fitness exercises train your muscles to work together and prepare them for daily tasks by simulating common movements you might do at home, at work or in sports. While using various muscles in the upper and lower body at the same time, functional fitness exercises also emphasize core stability. You will learn how to perform foundational movement patterns with appropriate and varying equipment – SYNRGY 360, TRX suspension trainers, ropes, dumbbells, kettlebells, bosu balls, medicine balls and more! The foundational movements patterns coached are: squat, hip hinge, lunge, push, pull and rotation.

Cross Training Fitness

Mar 18 – Apr 24, 2019 (Monday and Wednesday)| 7:30PM-8:15PM | SAC MP Fit

Medium/High Intensity Everyone can benefit from cross training including athletes and those training for a race! Cross Training is the action or practice of engaging in two or more types of exercise in order to improve fitness or performance in one's main sport. In this program, participants will challenge both your strength and cardiovascular abilities by executing variousfunctional movements helpful for everyday life while also focusing on proper flexibility and mobility practices to help prevent injury. This class will use our functional equipment including rowers, cable machines, free weights, barbells, ropes, kettlebells and more!

Group Fitness Classes

Motivating, enthusiastic and energy-packed instructors will lead you in classes that consist of a variety of cardiovascular activities, as well as strengthening, flexibility and relaxation exercises designed to meet the needs of all fitness levels. Class descriptions

Purchase Classes

All you need is your CMU ID and a group fitness pass per class! Passes can be purchased at the Guest Services desk within the Student Activity Center and get loaded right to your CMU ID card. We accept cash, check, credit/debit, and student account charge as payment.
