American Red Cross Course Descriptions
CPR/AED (Adult, Child, and Infant)
This course provides individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for breathing emergencies, perform CPR and use an AED. The CPR certification is valid for 2 years; First Aid is also valid for 2 years.
Length: 5 Hours
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer/First Aid
This course teaches a variety of skills including one and two rescuer CPR, use of resuscitation and bag-valve masks, and use of personal protective equipment. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification is valid for 2 years. Participants may borrow a URec pocket mask or purchase one on the day of the course for $15.
Length: 8 Hours
Prerequisites: Non-URec participants must purchase a pocket mask prior to the course for ($15).
This course is designed to train and educate individuals to be lifeguards through classroom learning and hands-on practice. Course elements include water and land rescue skills, first aid for injuries and sudden illnesses, spinal injury management, swimmer and facility surveillance, CPR, and emergency care. Lifeguard and first aid certifications are valid for 2 years. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification is valid for 2 years.
Length: 24 Hours
Prerequisites: 15 Years old, able to swim 300 continuous yards, surface dive up to 8 feet and retrieve a 10 lb. brick.

These Reviews provide some instructions for those who have current or recent certifications. Instructions are provided as a review before participants are tested.
Length: 4 Hours for CPR/AED-PR, 3 hours for CPR, and FA
Prerequisites: Must have current or previous certification that has been expired no more than 12 months.
Challenges: CPR, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard CPR
These Challenges provide individual testing for participants who wish to be re-certified in CPR, CPR-PR/AED, First Aid and Lifeguard. Instructors will not provide review or instruction. Participants must successfully complete all of the skills tests and pass the written test(s) with a minimum score of an 80 percent. A participant who does not pass the challenge will be referred back to the appropriate course .
Length: 1 hour-CPR, First Aid, CPR/AED-PR, and 4 hours-Lifeguard
