Making the decision to abstain from sexual contact is the most effective way to protect yourself from sexually transmitted infections.

Be Proactive

Have a plan. That means knowing:

  1. How often and when you'll get tested for STIs.
    • We recommend getting tested at least once a year and before becoming sexually active with a new partner.
  2. How you will access protection (condoms, dental dams, etc.) when/if you decide to become sexually active with a partner.
  3. Your body. It's up to you to know what is normal for your body. If something doesn't look or feel right, seek care from a health professional!

By taking the steps to care about your health and care about your partner's health, you'll be on the right track to protecting yourself and others from STIs. Take the time to learn about how STIs are transmitted, what can be done to prevent transmission, and what the symptoms are. Show yourself some love!
