Generic Prescriptions

Throughout the plan year, the Benefits and Wellness Office, CMU's Health Care Committee, and CVS Caremark, our prescription drug vendor for CMU staff and Fixed-Term faculty, will combine efforts to provide information about generic prescriptions as an alternative to brand-name drugs. Generic drugs can cost as much as 70% less than brand-name drugs while having the same high quality and effectiveness. Generic drugs are now available to treat many common medical conditions. For example, two widely used anti-depressants, Prozac® and Paxil®, are now available in generic form. A number of generics are available to treat high blood pressure, heartburn and other common conditions. Plus, more generic drugs become available each year.
