All benefit election changes MUST be made during the enrollment period and will be binding for the 2014-15 plan year.

CMU announces changes, upgrades in health plans

As health care cost across the nation continue to increase, Central Michigan University is adopting several health plan changes designed to keep premiums low and coverage robust.  Detailed list of changes

Deductibles changing for PPO 1 plan

Effective January 1, 2015, deductibles for CMU's PPO 1 plan are changing; deductibles for the PPO 2 plan remain the same.  A comparison grid of both plans is available to review your choices.

$500 carry forward now allowed for Health Care Flexible Spending Account

CMU employees opting to put some of their pretax wages into a HCFSA now will be able to carry up to $500 from one year to the next.  In another enhancement, the plan year minimum annual contribution to a Flexible Spending Account will be $100.  The entire annual HCFSA election is immediately available.

What Else Should I Consider?

  • Review Current Beneficiaries - beneficiaries can updated at any time in the "Current Year" of CMU Choices.
  • ​Verify Eligibility of Covered Family Members - do you need to add or drop a covered dependent?  Click HERE more information regarding eligibility criteria.  
  • Budget for Health Care Expenses - have you considered a Flexible Spending Account? FSA elections must be made each year during Open Enrollment.  For more information on FSA's click HERE.
  • Review your Life and Disability​ Insurance needs.  Certain changes in Life and Disability elections require an Evidence of Insurability.
  • Choosing Wisely - review consumer health document regarding what questions to ask when your doctor wants to order tests.

 Important Info

Flexible Spending Account (FSA):     Elections MUST be completed during Open Enrollment. Employees who do not make FSA elections during Open Enrollment will not have an FSA for the 2014-15 plan year.

Dental:                                                               Election changes can be made to dental for 2014-15. This is the first year of a two-year dental election period, which will end 06/30/16.

For employees moving from the PD 20/50 plan to the PD 10/20/30 plan, Caremark has a dedicated page to "Check Drug Coverage and Cost".
