Central Michigan University offers certain benefits to individuals enrolled as an “Other Eligible Individual” of benefit-eligible employees. The OEI’s IRS dependent children are also eligible for coverage provided they meet the criteria that apply to a dependent child. All benefits provided to an OEI or their dependent children are taxable to the employee.
Benefit-eligible employees wishing to name an individual as an OEI must complete a Designation Form. An OEI may be enrolled in CMU Choices benefits during the annual benefits Open Enrollment, upon the employee’s initial eligibility for benefits (as a new hire for example) or as a status change within 30 days if the qualifying OEI were to lose other coverage they had been enrolled in elsewhere.
