Student Service Advisor | Student Service Court
What do you like most about working in your department?
The Student Service Court is the office where the rubber meets the road. We represent 3 pillars of the university: financial aid, billing, and registration. With the knowledge of these areas and the partnership with Academic Advisors and Success Coaches, we help students piece together the puzzle that creates their collegiate career. For me, being the resource that can offer students the guidance and direction they need is highly rewarding. Many students who find their way to us are stuck, confused, overwhelmed, and beyond stressed. By listening to their stories, I am able to find the best path for them to continue their education. Every student has a story to tell, and in that story, I hear their goals and roadblocks. Together we work through the issues, jump over the hurdles, and get the student back on track. Being a knowledgeable resource that is willing to translate difficult processes and policies into a way that any individual can understand is my biggest goal! I am grateful to be able to make an impact in students' lives on a daily basis. The difference I am able to make does not just benefit their life today, but I also look at the long-term impact on their futures as well.
What motivates you to the high level of service that you exemplify?
The high level of service I provide is truly just my nature. It is ingrained in me to be a sharer of knowledge. I am able to explain difficult processes and translate that information into a way that the person can understand. I want to be able to teach students what I know to help them make better life choices. Their choices today impact their future, and I guide them to set themselves up for success down the road as well as in the moment. I take great pride in helping students find solutions in situations that otherwise seem hopeless. I see the grander picture that this is a student's life and future that we hold in our hands, and I believe that we owe it to our students to be the best that we can be each and every day. It is wonderful to be in a position where I can show students that we care here at CMU and that we strive to help them succeed. I feel motivated to be my best every day, because my best may mean the difference in a student fulfilling their dreams or giving up on their education. I want to always be a positive experience they remember when they think back to their time here at CMU.
