Rights and Responsibilities

Rights and responsibilities should be discussed when a student employee is hired and a statement of acceptance signed. Both the department
and the student employee have rights and responsibilities with regard
to employment at Central Michigan University.
The hiring department should:
- outline student job duties;
- inform the student employee of pay rate (if a new position, and after confirmation from Student Employment Services);
- discuss specific policies and procedures that are unique to the department;
- provide
proper supervision for the student employee. Supervision means
the employee has someone in authority to contact in the event of a problem in the workplace.
