Vehicle Registration Requirements

Beginning June​ 1st, the ONLINE VEHICLE REGISTRATION will be available for all registered Students & Faculty/Staff to register their vehicle for their upcoming academic year parking permit. Those who wish to purchase a summer parking permit ONLY will need to come to the CMU Police Department/ Parking Services Office during SUMMER business hours (Monday - Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm).

All students must have their classes scheduled, their​ housing assignment and a global ID before utilizing the online vehicle registration links. You will receive your housing assignment from the Office of Residence Life and your global ID from the Information Technology help desk at (989) 774-3662. The housing assignment and student global ID (with password) are both required to complete your online vehicle registration.

In order to ensure that you receive the proper parking permit, you MUST add/or edit the campus/local address you will be living at the start of classes for that academic year on your registration request. You will need to provide your complete campus or home address including your room/apartment number, name of the residence hall or off campus street address. Faculty/Staff will need to add/edit their campus department address on your registration request.

If your address changes during the school year, your vehicle registration records must be updated to keep your permit valid. You can stop in, phone, or e-mail Parking Services at to make this change. When changing your campus/local address by e-mail, your message MUST contain your full name, your campus ID, your old campus/local address, and your new campus/local address. If you have an e-mail address you use regularly, please include it on your vehicle registration form in case we need to contact you regarding your permit application

The only payment option for students is STUDENT ACCOUNT BILLING, although the parking permit charge WILL NOT BE BILLED until the FALL or SPRING billing cycle.

REGISTRATION REQUESTS received June​ 1st to July 18th

Online registrations received between June​ 1st and July 18th will be processed, and permits will be mailed to the applicant's HOME address beginning in July.
Faculty/Staff permits will be mailed to your campus address beginning in August.

REGISTRATION REQUESTS received July 19th through the first week of fall semester

Online registrations received July 19th and through the end of the first week of the fall semester, will be provided a temporary parking permit at the bottom of your receipt to print and display. Temporary permits will be valid in designated lot(s) printed on your temporary permit ONLY through the 3rd week of classes. If you have not received your permanent parking permit by MAIL by the 3rd week stop into Parking Services. 
Please allow 7 to 10 working days for processing.

REGISTRATION REQUESTS received after the first week of the fall semester

Online registrations received after the first week of the fall semester and continuing through the spring semester will be HELD FOR PICKUP at the CMU Police/Parking Services Office during regular business hours (Monday - Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm). However, since all the registration information will already be in our computer system, Late Registration will only take a minute or two. You will simply have to present your driver's license or student identification to obtain your permit.

Special parking is available for students with disabilities. Certification by Student Disability Services may be required. A doctor's request may be required to obtain a special parking permit for the disabled.
