Program Coordinator - Fitness

Responsibilities

Position Overview: To assist the Assistant Director and Graduate Assistant- Fitness in the administration of various related recreational activities.


Duties included but not limited to:

 

·       Major Duties: Assist in the development of programming for fitness and wellness events/activities; assist in the selection, training, scheduling and supervision of staff members; update program/activity communication to URec staff; conducts fitness tests; design and lead work-out programs, facilitate various exercise workshops. Assist with fitness/wellness promotions and health fairs as well as department events and special events; create educational/informational bulletin boards through out the facility; educate members and/or guests on equipment/machine that will work on certain areas of the body; other duties as assigned.

  

Qualifications

CMU student (undergraduate or graduate) who is interested in the field of Fitness and wants to gain the experience through learning inside/outside the classroom. Pervious experience working in fitness area or studying exercise science or other closely related fields (preferred). Must have work experience in at least one of the following areas: teaching group fitness classes, personal training or health/wellness education.

 Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

 Working Conditions: Office setting. Must lift boxes and other items correctly to avoid risk of back injury. Potential carpal-tunnel syndrome. Required to attend late night and weekend programs and activities. Potential of participants with heat related illness and cardiac problems. *Internal Candidates Only–Program Coordinators must remain and “active” staff member from the employee group in which they were hired from.

 

Certifications Requirement

Adult, Child and Infant CPR and Standard First Aid (American Red Cross preferred) and Right to Know training. National Certification in Group Fitness and/or personal training certification (preferred).
