Professor Mark A. Cwiek, JD, MHA, FACHE, has earned Fellowship status in the American College of Healthcare Executives and has over 20 years of healthcare administration experience. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Wayne State University, his Master of Health Administration degree from St. Louis University, and his Juris Doctor degree from St. Louis University. Earlier in his career he served as the Presidential Fellow for the Sisters of Mercy Health Corporation (Farmington Hills, MI); Vice-President and In-house Legal Counsel of St. Joseph Hospital (Atlanta, GA); Vice-President and In-house Legal Counsel of Chelsea Community Hospital (Chelsea, MI); President & CEO of St. Vincent Memorial Hospital (Taylorville, IL); President & CEO of Central Michigan Community Hospital (Mt. Pleasant, MI); President & CEO of Meridian Ventures (a home healthcare corporation); and President & CEO of Mt. Pleasant Area Physician-Hospital Association (a managed care, provider organization). While CEO of Central Michigan Healthcare System, he was privileged to lead the hospital team to being ranked as one of the "Top 100 Hospitals" in the USA, as reported in the Wall Street Journal. Dr. Cwiek was instrumental in forming a Physician-Hospital Organization (a contracting managed care entity) and was elected by its membership to serve as its first President and CEO.
He is licensed as an attorney in Michigan and Illinois, has authored numerous publications, has presented in many healthcare and management related forums throughout his career, and served as a board member of several professional and charitable organizations. Dr. Cwiek is a Professor in the College of Health Professions, Central Michigan University Main Campus, in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. He is the developer and founder of the Health Administration undergraduate degree program and co-founder of the Doctor of Health Administration degree program at CMU, the enrollment to which is limited to healthcare executives with five or more years of upper-level management experience. Professor Cwiek is a recipient of the Central Michigan University Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Cwiek is happily married to wife Pat, and has four children, college age and older.
