Dr. Walston is professor emeritus after serving 30 years at Central Michigan University. During his time at CMU Dr. Walston was a professor and served as department chair for several years. Dr. Walston was the Division Director of Community Health and Health Services Administration until retirement. Dr. Walston was actively involved with the Master of Science in Administration program offered through the Central Michigan University Extended Degree Program. Dr. Walston's responsibilities included being a student advisor, approving faculty who taught and advised in the program, and coordination of curriculum review which included updating of courses in the Health Service Administration concentration.
Dr. Walston served as chair of committees for the development of an undergraduate program in health service administration, the development of a long term care concentration, the development of a proposal for a doctoral program in health service administration, and the development of a master's program in physical therapy. Dr. Walston was also involved with selecting and hiring faculty members for each of the new health administration programs as well as for the physical therapy program and a new physician assistant program. n undergraduate degree from University of Iowa, a master's degree from Northwest Missouri State University, and a Ph.D. in health sciences from University of Utah. After earning an undergraduate degree and teaching at the secondary level, Dr. Walston was the recipient of a National Science Foundation grant for further study in biology.
