Educator Eligibility

Where can I apply?

On the CMU application site: apply.cmich.edu. You must indicate “SUMMER” as your desired time to be considered for this special cohort.

Where can I find the additional form to share my partner information and essay?

Please find the form here.

I am not a Michigan educator. Can I qualify for this special cohort?

No. We are sorry, as we would like to be able to extend this rate to all educators who are interested, but we need to limit this opportunity to Michigan educators. That said, we are considering this opportunity for a specialized, intensive experience at the same tuition rate for another cohort that would begin in August, so we still encourage you to apply.

I am not a K-12 educator. Can I qualify for this special cohort?

No. We are sorry, as we would like to be able to extend this rate to all educators who are interested, but we need to limit this opportunity to K-12 educators, in both public and private schools. That said, we are considering this opportunity for a specialized, intensive experience at the same tuition rate for another cohort that would begin in August, so we still encourage you to apply.

I am not able to find a partner, or I am not sure if I will be in a particular school district next fall so I don't want to team with someone who I won't be working with in the future. Can I still apply?

Yes. At this point, we have been given approval to allow individual educators to apply. Preference will be given to partner pairs from the same school/district. Still, we encourage you to apply.

I have a partner from another district. Can I still apply?

Yes. At this point, we have been given approval to allow educators who want to apply in partnership, yet may be in different districts, to apply. Preference will be given to partner pairs from the same school/district. Still, we encourage you to apply.

What happens if I need to step away from this program/pause for any reason?

When you sign your enrollment agreement and commit to the 10 course sequence in the next 15 months, we will honor this $333 per credit (plus fees). While we understand that personal and professional challenges may keep us from meeting our academic goals, we are not able to guarantee that you will be able to return to the MALDT program at this special tuition rate, or with this special cohort, should you step away for any reason.

Finances and Billing

How will the $9,990 be billed?

At this point, we expect that you will be billed in the following manner:
  • Each credit hour of the 30 hour program will be billed at $333.
  • Additional fees, including the CMU application, graduation application, and Student Service Fee ($225 per semester) will still apply.

When will the $9,990 be billed?

  • Summer 2020 bill due on July 1, 2020: 3 courses, 9 credits ($2997 + fees)
  • Fall 2020 bill due on November 1, 2020: 2 courses, 6 credits ($1998 + fees)

  • Summer 2021 bill due on June 1, 2021: 3 courses, 9 credits ($2997 + fees)

Will I still be eligible for financial aid?

Yes. All regular considerations for financial aid will be applied. To that end, please ensure that you have filed both a 2019-20 as well as 2020-21 FAFSA. The 2019-20 FAFSA is due no later than June 30, 2020. We encourage you to file the 2020-21 FAFSA in a timely manner as well.

Will I be eligible to "stack" additional discounts (e.g., tuition rates for preferred employers, CMU employee credit remission)?

No. We cannot offer additional discounts on this already discounted rate.

Can my school/district pay my tuition directly?

Yes. Please contact Katie Bollman cmuonline@cmich.edu for information about direct billing.
