The Web Director was created to maintain a managed and functional environment for redirects. Each user is able to create a redirect built off of an authorized URL path. If a user does not have access to their desired URL path, the user may put in a request for that redirect. The user can view the details of all the redirects they may be associated, as well as tracking for those redirects. It is the responsibility of the redirect owner to manage their redirects.
Add a Redirect
- Click in the top right corner of home page
- Select an authorized path from the drop down
(Note: if desired path not available refer to 'Request a Redirect')
- Fill out the text box in Short URL to add to the end of the path
- Place the destination URL in the associated field
(Note: this must be an existing web page)
- Specify whether this is an absolute redirect or not(Note: hover cursor over the question mark for definition of absolute)
- Fill Request By with the Global ID of the person who requested it, if not the person completing the form.
- Choose if the redirect should be permanent or should expire within a certain time.
- Provide a reason for this new redirect to exist
- Click on bottom of form
Request a Redirect
- Click on
in the top right corner of the home page
- Fill out the URL to be redirected in the Short URL field
- Place the destination URL in the associated field (Note: this must be an existing web page)
Choose if the redirect should be permanent or should expire within a certain time.
- Provide a reason for the new redirect to exist

The top and bottom redirects are determined by their individual hit count. Their hit count is incremented in the event that user types a short URL in their browser and it is redirected to the destination URL. The results are displayed with the short URL and the hit count.
Filters: the results show the top and bottom redirects that meet the criteria of the filters
Select the start and end date for a specific time period
(Note: Date range is defaulted to six months)
Select the path for only redirects that begin with selection
Type desired search in the text box for a more specific search
Click to put filters in place
A redirect is considered broken if the destination or short URL has become dysfunctional. A red X is placed next to the URL that is considered broken.
Redirects with No Hits
A redirect has a hit count associated with it. Their hit count is incremented in the event that user types a short URL in their browser and it is redirected to the destination URL. A redirect with no hits is a redirect that no user has utilized
Redirect statuses that are used to maintain a clean and working environment for CMich redirects. Each redirect is tested nightly and the status associated is updated accordingly. There are four different statuses that can result.
Redirect functional as of most recent testing.|
Redirect awaiting approval or activation window; not active. |
Redirect source (incoming URL) is not functional.|
Redirect target (destination URL) is not functional.|
The destination URL must be an existing page
Redirects can only be built off of authorized paths
User may only view redirects that apply to them
A new redirect with the same short URL as an existing redirect cannot be added
User cannot edit the status, date, added by, or requested by fields of redirect
